AIR Connectivity – Doncaster Sheffield Airport offers full cargo and passenger services and is open 24-7 365 days a year. It has one of the longest runways in the UK, catering for specialist heavy and urgent cargo and is ideal for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO, alongside the adjacent Aero Centre Yorkshire which is ideal for warehousing. The Sheffield City Region is also less than 90 minutes away from five more airports.
ROAD Connectivity – At the heart of the UKs road network – With low traffic congestion and 60% of UK’s manufacturing industry within a 2.5-hour HGV drive. 75% of the UK can be reached within a 4.5-hour HGV drive, and there is ease of access to Europe through the Humber ports.
RAIL Connectivity – Sheffield City Region’s central location has led to its growth as a logistics centre. Daily freight services connect Felixstowe and Southampton with Doncaster railport. Plus, London is only 90 minutes by train from key stations in the region. High Speed Rail is coming to Sheffield city centre and will further shorten journey times to London, while also improving connectivity with neighbouring cities.
SEA Connectivity – From East to the West, the sea ports of Humber and Liverpool are within easy centralised reach of the region. The west coast ports primarily serve America, while the east coast ports of Immingham, Felixstowe, Port of Tyne and Thames Gateway serve Europe and the rest of the world. Daily ferry services run from the nearby Humber port in Hull.
