Chesterfield Waterside’s £320m scheme has taken a big step forward. It has been awarded a £2.7m grant from the Sheffield City Region Investment Fund (SCRIF).

The grant was secured by Chesterfield Borough Council in partnership with developers Chesterfield Waterside Ltd.

As a result, plans have been lodged for the first phase of development. This is the £75m Basin Square element of Waterside.

The planning application involves clearing the former Trebor factory site and moving the temporary car park. Phase one will include offices, a hotel and apartments.

Subject to approval, this could begin during summer.

John Burrows, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “By getting this funding from the Sheffield City Region we can kick-start development on this important and high profile site in the town.

“We will continue to seek grant and loan funding from every possible source to help grow businesses, build homes and secure and create jobs for Chesterfield people.”
