It has been announced Sylvia Yates, former executive director of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), will receive the OBE for services to regeneration.

Chair of Sheffield City Region LEP James Newman said:

“The SCR LEP team are delighted to learn that Sylvia Yates has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list.

“This is a well-deserved award for Sylvia who has spent a lot of her career in Yorkshire and was particularly influential in ensuring the success of the Objective 1 Programme, and important regeneration work in the Humber.

“Her work with the Sheffield City Forum and her unstinting efforts, advice and guidance in setting up and establishing the LEP was, I know from first-hand experience, a crucial part of making the LEP the success it has been to date.

“We are delighted her work has been recognised by this honour.”

Sylvia worked in South Yorkshire for 12 years until retiring in May 2012.

As director of the Objective 1 agency Sylvia oversaw spending of EU regeneration money.

She was director of Sheffield City Forum, moving on to establish the Local Enterprise Partnership at Sheffield City Region.
